Teacher or Administrator?

Being a teacher is great however being a good teacher is hard. In Indonesia, teacher should be able to create program tahunan, known as PROTA (annual program), program semester, known as PROMES (semester program), syllabus, kartu soal (testing planning card), kisi kisi soal (syllabus for testing planning) lesson planning, evaluation, enrichment, and remedial program. All this administrative works are defined as one of the teaching device.

By doing so, teacher will be a busy administrator for a while. However, if teacher don't make it, then the assessor or the supervisor will consider the teacher as unqualified teacher. In the other hand, if teacher is always busy about creating these too many administrative works, then, sometimes teaching activity in the classroom will a little bit ignored.

As a teacher who is working in a stated owned school, I have to prepare all this administrative works, and I've found it really hard to manage my time since I think I have such an overloaded schedule for a week. I have to teach 32 hours a week. It means that I almost don't have chance to prepare my all administrative work in short time due to the deadlines set by the assessor or supervisor.

In conclusion, being an ideal teacher needs strong and serious effort. Instead of being a good teacher, in Indonesia, teacher will be more like an administrative staff.

Education for a better future? What does it mean?

Some people say that education is important for a better future. What does it mean? Does it mean that young  generation will be able to solve their problems because of their skill and knowledge? So, what kind of skill and knowledge is considered to be important?

For parents from such developing countries, they may think that education is of course important because by having such school certificate their children will have more chances in getting such a good job. Higher education level means higher opportunity for having good job working in a government institution, so so company, or level up the carrier.

However, such belief isn't always true because there are so many unemployed people are coming from those whose education status are high like diploma, bachelor and even master degree. When the parents' expectation isn't fulfilled then, they may think that higher education status doesn't automatically mean better future. There are some parents from developing countries now tend to give their children such simple business skill which doesn't require such high level of education. The parents simply give their children some real business to run.

There will be a problem for poor family. When the government says that by accessing higher level of education people will be able to access higher income, and if it won't be proven to be true, then, it will be a boomerang. Therefore, the university at some developing countries bear such heavy duty. The university should also teach students skill for living independently by opening job opportunity instead of seeking job opportunities.

For parents from such developed countries, they may also think the same thing as the parents from such developing countries do. The only difference is perhaps, the parents will focus on their children's talent. It means that the children are not good in academic but pretty good at sports, the children don't have to continue studying at the university but spend their time practicing the sports skill at the club like football club, tennis club, boxing club, and many more.
