Is national examination necessary? The answer arouse controversy among parents in Indonesia. For information, students in Indonesia, should have a national examination before graduating from junior or senior high school. Even for some students of vocational school, they have to pass the national examination also.
Some parents think that national education is not necessary because only teachers are responsible to decide whether or not students graduate from school. Only teachers who know the real condition of their students not the government.
Just like what I can find at the University, the lecturers are responsible to test their students. They have freedom and there is no government's intervention there. However, the society can decide which university is really qualified or not.
Why does government not apply this at students of junior and senior high? So that schools can have a freedom to test their students independently and that society can decide which schools are really qualified or not?
The cost for holding such national examination is very expensive. The government may think it wisely to continue for further national examination. It will be better to relocate the use of fund for other more important thing like insurance for education.
